B.C.’s Education minister was coy when asked if he would be returning to Kamloops anytime soon to make another capital project announcement.
Rob Fleming touted his government’s $2.7 billion dollar capital budget he says if passed will accelerate school announcements in Kamloops and elsewhere.
“That shows our intent to continue renewing schools. That allows us to accelerate school investment in Kamloops. They have waited a long long time to get announcements and to keep those coming. It will help us meet the needs of students.”
Fleming knows the capital need in Kamloops past the Valleyview Secondary expansion announcement but when asked if he would return soon to address the next capital projects he said.
“Yes I think the Kamloops Thompson [School District] has done an extraordinary job getting this project through the business case phase to get to an announcement and I look forward to working with them in the future.”
With the number one capital priority Valleyview Secondary expansion now taken care of the Kamloops School District is turning its attention to the need for a new elementary school in Pineview Valley and an expansion at Westmount Elementary.
And then of course there is what to do with the very old and jam-packed South Kamloops Secondary.
